Venue

The conference is organized by the Institute for Scintillation Materials (ISMA) being an initiative of the EC FP-7 Project “SUCCESS” (www.success.kharkov.ua). The Institute for Scintillation Materials provides different research collaboration in the field of scintillation material and detectors in favor of many scientific and industrial applications.

The ASM-2013 “Advanced Scintillation Materials – 2013” will be held in Kharkov, Ukraine. The conference will be situated in the main conference hall of ISMA building located in 10 minutes by metro from the city center.

Kharkov is the second-largest city of Ukraine. Located in the north-east of the country, it is the largest city of the Slobozhanshchyna historical region. The city was founded in 1654 and was a major centre of Ukrainian culture in the Russian Empire. Kharkov became the first city in Ukraine to acknowledge the Soviet power in December 1917 and becoming later the capital of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Kharkov remained the capital of the Ukrainian SSR until January 1934, when it was moved to Kiev.
Kharkov is a major cultural, scientific, educational, transport and industrial centre of Ukraine, with 60 scientific institutes, 30 establishments of higher education, 6 museums, 7 theatres and 80 libraries. A well-known landmark of Kharkov is the Freedom Square (Ploshcha Svobody), which is currently the sixth largest city square in Europe, and the 12^th largest square in the world.

During the conference a sightseeing tour about Kharkov will be organized for participants of ASM-2013.

Kharkov can easily be reached by car (bus), train or air transport. The city is located in 400 km from capital of Ukraine – Kiev that is very convenient for domestic connection with Kiev-Borispol international airport.

Please, note, that the optional post-conference tour to Kiev will be available for participants of ASM-2013.
